Shinnyo-en is an international Buddhist community originally established in Japan in 1936 by Master Shinjo Ito. We promote the values of peaceful coexistence and cooperation through the works of philanthropic foundations, and place great value on the contributions that each individual can make toward life on our planet. Shinnyo-en Sri Lanka has been contributing to Sri Lankan society for over three decades in a number of areas, such as social, cultural, religious, disaster and education.
Shinnyo-en's story began in 1936. Shinjo Ito was enjoying a comfortable career as an aircraft engineer, but felt a strong desire to pursue Buddhism and guide people to happiness.
Today, Shinnyo-en is led by Her Holiness Shinso Ito, Shinjo's direct successor. Shinso was born in Japan in 1942, the daughter of Shinjo and Tomoji.
