Shinnyo-en Lanka Preschool, established in 1987 with 100 children, provides free education for ages 3-5. Our curriculum combines the AMI method and National policy, emphasizing self-directed activities, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. We aim to build self-confidence and independent thinking from an early age, while fostering rich sensorimotor experiences and imaginative play. Our focus is on social, emotional, and physical development, laying strong foundations for future learning. We follow a well-planned academic calendar with high-quality activities based on pre-established lesson plans.

History Shinnyo En Lanka Preschool was founded by a Buddhist Master (Japanese Mahanayake) named Shinjo Ito. Buddhist Master Shinjo Ito expressed his desire for a social contribution initiative in Sri Lanka, which materialized as the establishment of the Shinnyo-en Lanka Free Nursery School. Prior to the school's inauguration, there were several joyful events in Shinnyo-en that fostered a strong connection between the Buddhist community in Sri Lanka and Shinnyo-en. In March 1984, Buddha’s Sacred Relics were offered to Shinjo Ito, Founder of Shinnyo-en by Most Reverend Pannyatisa Thero. The following year, in 1985, President Premadasa presented a Sacred Bodhi Tree sapling to a delegation from Shinnyo-en who had visited Sri Lanka. Then, in June 1986, the late prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Palipane Sri Chandananda Mahanayake Thera, visited Shinnyo-en's headquarters in Japan and personally presented a Sacred Bodhi sapling to Founder Shinjo Ito. The birth of Shinnyo-en Lanka Preschool can be attributed to the nurturing friendships that have developed between the Sri Lanka Buddhist Community and Shinnyo-en. Furthermore, in October 1996, the Sri Lanka Buddhist Community presented upon Founder Shinjo Ito, the HONARARY DEGREE OF MAHAYANA BUDDHA DARMA VISHARADA KEERTHI SRI. At present Shinso Ito, is the Shinnyo En's Head Priest. All school activities are founded in terms of donations by Her Holiness Shinso Ito.

Message from Principal

Go through with the school vision of “Arranging the foundation for the growth of a perfect personality” and our mission is to produce a moral, honest, and peace-loving citizen from the Buddhist environment. Our school is currently in an exceptional position among Sri Lanka's preschools, and our Children not only learn letters but also a hub for varied extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. We encourage all our students to participate in these numerous opportunities available to experience, enjoy and grow in wisdom. The awareness of "Service through work" is introduced to our children through various activities. Our academic staff is committed to better serve our children by constantly sharpening their skills, experience, and knowledge. I strongly believe that children who leave Shinnyo-en Lanka preschool will be standing as humble human beings who are possessing "Bosath" qualities.

Structure of the School The structure of our Preschool has developed in order to bring out the innate talents of our children. The Preschool is governed by a Board of Trustees, comprising eminent and distinguished personnel from Sri Lanka and Japan. They oversee the strategic development of the school and the effective and efficient use of resources. The Principal is responsible for the overall academic management of the whole school, assisted by the Assistant Principal. The key strength of our school is its highly qualified academic staff. Academic staff are selected based on an intensive interview process that considers academic qualifications, experience, and skills. Currently, we have around 30 academic staff. Highly dedicated nonacademic staff supporting most activities in school. During a particular academic year, we cater to around 200 children. Children from diverse backgrounds are selected through an interview process with the view of providing a social service and representing and blending with different layers of society.
